Are Stem Cells Really the Fountain of Youth?

Have scientists finally discovered the fountain of youth? Results from a new study suggests that anti-aging treatments may not be too far into the future after all.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have developed a Stem Cell Treatment that significantly stalls aging and increases life span… if you are a mouse that is. Although it has not been tested on humans, this study shows the capabilities of stem cells in regards to the aging process.

The Study

Researches injected a combination of stem cells and a similar type of cells – called progenitor cells – into mice that were bred with the disease Progeria. Progeria is a rare genetic disease that causes advanced aging in children. The stem cells that were injected came from the muscle tissue of young healthy mice.

It’s good to note that mice with progeria only live only days on average. However, when researchers injected the stem cells into the mice when they were 17 days old, their life spans doubled, with some living up to 66 days.

What is even more interesting is the fact that signs of aging like weak leg muscles, walking hunched over and trembling all decreased in the mice that were injected.  Following two injections of stem cells spaced several weeks apart, the mice saw relief in 75 percent of their symptoms. This suggests the stem cells delayed the effects of aging.

What Does This Mean?

This study seems to suggests that stem cell dysfunction may be the cause of changes associated with aging. However, does that mean Stem Cell Therapy could reverse aging in humans?

It’s too soon to tell and there is not enough research to fully say. However, it is a fact that the healthy stem cells from the young mice somehow rejuvenated the aging mice’s cells, as opposed to replacing them. This effect was seen when the mice’s brains became healthier, despite only being injected with stem cells through the stomach. If scientists discover a mechanism that flips the switch to rejuvenate older stem cells, people could potentially reverse aging – without even the need for injecting cells.

Conclusion

Stem Cell Therapy uses strong forms of regenerative medicine that recreates and repairs cartilage, ligaments, and tissue that has been damaged; and does so naturally.Although we can’t help with aging right now,  this is still an effective and safe form of treatment that will reinvigorate your life and promote overall well-being  if you are suffering from ailments like  joint pain.  If you feel that you could benefit from stem cell therapy or would like to know more about how this incredible treatment can help you, call Prime Spine and Orthopedic now at (855) 887-7463.
